Major Incident Medical Management and Support

MIMMS presents the nature and management of a major incident, focusing on ho to deliver the medical support needed to multiple casualties.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Major Incidents are described as being in three phases: Preparation, Response, and Recovery.

We are all always in the preparation phase, which includes planning, equipping, and training. Whether you are a commander or a responder, the Major Incident Medical Management & Support (MIMMS) course is a superb way of understanding how healthcare shapes its response to a major incident.

Governed by the world-renowned Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) this course covers what major incidents are, the principles of working during them and some key tools such as communication forms and triage.

If you potentially might be a commander at an incident, you are now required to undertake CPD, and the MIMMS course is the ideal way of undertaking some formal education to add to your portfolio. This will support you in complying with the National Occupational Standards Framework.

Hospital Major Incident Medical Management and Support

Internationally recognised, the HMIMMS course is helping hospitals prepare to respond to a major incident.

Major Incidents end up at hospitals. Sometimes the hospital is the major incident. The Major Incident Medical Management & Support: The Practice Approach at the Hospital (HMIMMS) course helps prepare staff to pivot the hospital to Major Incident footing.

Emergency Planners often take away significant numbers of ways to improve their plans from this course. Front line clinicians increase their confidence, so they would respond optimally. Feedback from previous participants indicates that doing this course is actually increasing wellbeing by offering a sense of psychological safety around the rational fears of that day of days.

Immediate Life Support

The Resuscitation Council UK’s Immediate Life Support (ILS) course equips both healthcare and non-healthcare professionals with vital knowledge and skills essential for effectively treating adults experiencing cardiac arrest.

Participants learn to swiftly recognise deteriorating patients and initiate appropriate interventions following the ABCDE approach (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure). The course emphasises the critical steps of the chain of survival: early recognition, early CPR, early defibrillation, and post-resuscitation care.

By focusing on these key elements, participants gain the confidence and competence needed to significantly improve patient outcomes. Hospitals are mandated to deliver high-quality resuscitation services, underscoring the importance of this training in safeguarding lives.

Paediatric Immediate Life Support

The Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) course equips healthcare professionals with the crucial skills needed to recognize and effectively intervene in pediatric cardiac arrest scenarios.

Unlike adult cardiac arrest, the aetiology of cardiac arrest in children presents unique challenges, due to anatomical, physiological and pathological differences, requiring specialised knowledge and techniques.

During our PILS course, participants learn to identify the distinctive signs of paediatric cardiac arrest and initiate early and appropriate interventions tailored to children.

By understanding these crucial differences, individuals can confidently respond to paediatric cardiac emergencies, potentially saving young lives with timely and targeted interventions.
